Reusing punch lines two days in a row. I thought it was funny at least.
I know I’ve been skimping on the backgrounds on these strips. Normally I love drawing backgrounds, but right now that’s not where my focus is. Dialogue and character development have never been my strong suit. So I’ve really been focusing on that and letting the characters drive the story. Once I feel more comfortable with that, I’ll be doing a much more complete story.
I have to say, even after all these years of making comics and doing art, I still get nervous and insecure about this. I always thought it would go away with time. But it doesn’t. There’s always something about each strip that bugs me, or isn’t “perfect” yet. But I have to put it up anyways, and move on. “I’ll get it on the next one” I tell myself. To do anything creative, is to leave yourself vulnerable. Luckily, everyone seems to like this strip.
I’ve been taking an informal poll the last couple to days of people I really trust and admire, and the consensus, is that even when it isn’t working, its still entertaining. Which is what really matters. Its at least something to build on. So thanks for reading, and coming back each week. Monday I had considerably more visitors than normal. It just keeps getting better and better. Thank you all! Keep smiling!

You could have fooled me. I think dialogue and character development has evidently become one of your strong suits from what I’ve read thus far. As an artist I am drawn ofcourse to the awesome use of color in your work, but it’s the writing that has kept me just as excited to read the next one. As someone who is also not very confident in my story telling ability as well….I can assure you that if I wrote what you wrote I wouldn’t have any worries….well…maybe not as many.
I think I’ve decided that even if not every day hits on all cylinders, (certainly my last update didn’t) The most important thing that readers care about is that your delivering on a consistent basis and that each update offers at least some development. Be it character or story development. I really think there is a lot to consistency of updates. If the reader doesn’t care for today’s offering, they know that your consistent and that you will give them something else next time around that they might like better.
I think I was just feeling the pressure when I posted that. This is supposed to be fun! Not all serious and stuff. This is why I don’t like getting behind on the strips. Its harder to enjoy the process when its due the next morning. I enjoy things a whole lot more when I’m working ahead. Gotta make that a priority!
Thanks guys for the feedback and encouragement. You are both awesome!
